PORTFOLIO

Statement

A fragment of something, no matter how small, reflects the essence of the whole. What is essential depends on the perspective from which it is seen, heard, felt. I focus on the small details of images, on forgotten sounds, landscapes and objects: those that are just scrolled by, but that can reveal characteristics of a specific moment and place.

To choose the fragments I work with, I like to walk and explore my surroundings until I find them. For me, the dérive is the main source of material: it implies movement, time; it implies experience; it implies not knowing what I'm looking for, even if I know where I'm going; implies geography, cartography; involves compilation, documentation; it implies memory.

In my work I seek the tension that is generated by decontextualizing, by inserting foreign objects, by realizing the absurd. With it, I assume a critical stance on the human impact on nature, the standardization of a 'global' culture and the capitalist model of production. My approach is interdisciplinary and I use the different media to reflect on my own experience and vision of the world.

What you can see is not the vibration of sound,

it’s not a conversion of sound,

it is the shadow of what will come.

The causal force, not the effect.

The tin can telephone was developed by Robert Hooke in 1665. It was one of the first attempts to make a mechanical telephone that transmitted the vibration of sound from one tin to another using taut wire, without the use of electricity. That technology made a physical connection between those who were on either side, but you couldn't always tell who was on the Other side of the thread.

This work seeks to make a connection with the invisible and forgotten sounds of the city.

Rain.

Time stands still.

One drop, one single drop.

Details emerge with closeness,

with the details the distinction.

Four water molecules united, so similar,

but each with it's own motion.

Brownian motion, random, withoutcontrol.

Motion to everywhere but to no place at all.

The molecules are part of the drop

and the drop is still in it's place.

Rain.
